The sign said it all; ‘Heapfield!’
Hanging precariously, even the sign looked neglected and so did the farm we soon found out.
The owners are really nice and gave us a very nice welcome. Sad to have to say negative things about their holiday cottage. I didn’t want to.
I tried to speak to someone at Sykes Cottages to do things sensitively but true to form they would not talk to me. Honestly, they could not care less! Take your money and ignore you. Sadly other reviewers say the same. Had we been people hiring expensive properties with bags of money then perhaps we might have warranted more attention.
The cottage was small and the Bathroom Vinyl floor was dirty.
There was no floor mop so I would have had to get on my hands and knees to clean the two Vinyl floor areas, I did in the bathroom around the toilet and along the edge.
There were old, old cob webs everywhere; here are some photos.
BASICS
There wasn’t any washing up liquid, salt or pepper or other condiments that you usually find in holiday cottages. Most of the utensils needed a jolly good clean. The inside of the air cooker was rusted, (true it had a silicon liner).
The cottage had a feeling of doing everything on the cheap.
As Old Aged Pensioners who hadn’t been away for a holiday for a long time it was all that we could afford and in our 70’s we do not want to be carrying out extensive cleaning. But we left the property cleaner than we found it.
I had hoped to speak to Sykes to ask them to visit the property and gently point out the things lacking and what needed addressing. The lady of the farm can only properly see through one eye and both my wife and I feel for her. Her husband has his work cut out running the farm on his own.
RATS
There were rats, I saw two at different times and my wife saw one run under our car while she was standing at the kitchen sink looking through the window. Goodness knows what she would have done had she been outside when the rat appeared.
I did mention the first rat out to the farmer but of course it’s a farm, you always have rats on a farm unless you have a rolling rat poisoning program.
Caring Sykes (NOT).
Sykes, take your money and ignore you, they are simply not worth dealing with.
The only time that you SPEAK to a real person is when you are BOOKING over the phone. Apparently their CEO doesn’t even answer emails.
They certainly do (syke) Psyche you out as the slang puts it.
I feel sorry for the people who own Heapfield Cottage, I genuinely do. Sykes could be so much more helpful to the owners and the customers.
I scrubbed the Washing Up Bowl but…..
too Far Gone I’m Afraid.
